What Are You Grateful For?

Growing up I was a very selfish and negative individual.  I never set out to become selfish or negative, but that is still where I wound up.  Why is that?  The answer is simple.  We live in a selfish and negative world.  I did not have to set out to become selfish or negative.  I simply had to not be intentional about not becoming selfish and negative and the downstream current of the world just led me there.  Is this something you struggle with at all?  If so would you like to know what you can do about it?

Do You Talk To Yourself?

This probably sounds like an odd question, but I will ask it any way, “Do you talk to yourself?”  You are probably thinking that is an odd question.  Most of society thinks that talking to yourself is a bad thing and there are definitely many instances where it is.  When I ask this I am not referring to someone who is having a psychological break from reality.  The context I am asking this question in refers to speaking specific positive messages to yourself.  You may or may not be aware of this, but most successful people talk to themselves regularly.

You Are Right

We live in a day and age where everyone has very strong opinions about politics, religion, finances, parenting, etc.  If you ever turn on the TV or check your social media you can hardly escape it.  There are “talk shows” where the left argues with the right and the right argues with the left.  As time has gone on I have become more and more aware of something that is happening as a result of all of this arguing – nothing improves.

Why I Blog

“Why do you blog?”  I have received this question several times so I though the best way I could answer it was by writing a blog post.  I had been encouraged by others to blog several different times over the past two years and had been very reluctant.  My first objection was I didn’t think I had anything to say.  Then as I gained more confidence I actually had a message to share I was not sure if blogging would be a wise use of my time.  Then I read Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World by Michael Hyatt.  If you are even remotely interested in blogging you MUST read this book first.

Do You Have A Healthy Slight Edge?

Do you want to live a healthier, happier, more productive life?  I believe everyone truly does.  Unfortunately more and more Americans are living an unhealthy lifestyle despite the fact we are the wealthiest nation in the world and information is at our finger tips with the internet.  Think about it.  We all know people (I was one of them) who start a diet and exercise routine, begin to see progress, and then over time they backslide.  Why is that?  The answer is quite simple.  We do not have a health crisis on our hands because of a lack of information.  We have a health crisis on our hands because we have bought into the wrong philosophy over time.  In order to steer this ship back on the right course we simply need to apply The Slight Edge Philosophy.

Are You Fed Up?

Beth and I just watched the documentary Fed Up and it really got me thinking.  There was not a lot of new information for me personally, but it tied together some of the pieces in a very compelling manner and paints a very clear picture of WHY we as Americans need to make some big changes.  I am not endorsing the political views of increased government regulation, but I know that the way our nation eats is killing us and we need to make some SERIOUS changes in our daily lifestyles.

Walk Like A Man

In my last post Are You A Real Man I addressed the foundation to being a real man is surrendering your life to Jesus Christ and following Him.  Once you have made that decision to follow Jesus you still have the challenge ahead of, “Walking It Out” every day.  This is an area I constantly struggle in and I am daily growing in.  Here are three specific steps I have found that greatly assist me in this all important role.

Are You A Real Man?

This past weekend Beth and I were on a great trip with some friends who challenge us to be better in every area of our lives.  It was a busy four day weekend filled with long days and lots of fellowship.  I had only been getting about five hours of sleep each night and really wanted to sleep in Sunday morning, but my friend, DJ, invited all of the men to join him for a 7:15 am bible study.  I was definitely tired, but so thankful DJ invited us to join him.  DJ’s message was simple, but powerful and caused me to consider the differences between being a guy and being a man.
